New Virtual Reality equipment

IID have invested in Virtual Reality equipment to bring our models to life for clients and design teams.  This has already proved extremely popular in providing a feel for the scale and layout of our designs, which may not be as easy to appreciate from 2D drawings.  The ability to walk around our building models and experience the spaces will transform the design process and can also be used for marketing and fundraising purposes – please get in touch for more information.

Education Building Forum

On 12th October one of our Directors, Simon Tupper, gave a presentation at the Education Building Forum on the fundamental necessity of masterplanning as a means of tackling the shortfalls in school estates. His talk covered the practicalities of how to approach a masterplan and used The Tiffin Girls’ School, one of our long term clients, as a case study. If you would like a digital copy of the presentation please do not hesitate to contact us at info@iid.co.uk or call us on 020 3274 1000.

Haberdashers' Aske's School for Girls - "Science Hub" starts on site

This project comprises Phase 2 of the school’s strategic masterplan and involves a new five storey rebuild of an existing block to provide a dedicated “Science Hub”.  The overall design strategy is to echo the scale, materiality and form of the existing so that the building appears as a considered whole. The composition of the roof, windows and over-cladding aims to update the 1970s design aesthetic in an elegant and subtly refined way.

Wimbledon High School

IID are delighted to have been selected from six architects to work with the GDST on a new development at Wimbledon High School, London. The school occupies a constrained site at the bottom of Wimbledon Hill and lies within a conservation area. The Trust and School have laid down a challenging brief which aligns with their forward thinking approach to education. We are thrilled to be working with a client who is eager to push the boundaries and look forward to meeting the challenge.

Red Lion Coffee Co.

IID has taken its first foray into commercial fitout work with the founder of Red Lion Coffee Co, Chris Mckie. The cafe is set within the fabric of a large new build development in New Cross, south east London. The brief was to keep it simple but create a warm atmosphere. The lighting and furniture use basic but robust materials and the floor is ground concrete to expose the black aggregate.

Team IID Crisis Square Mile Run

On Thursday 8th June at 7pm - 10 members of the team at IID Architects took part in the Crisis ‘Square Mile Run’ to raise funds and awareness towards ending homelessness.

Due to the heightened security situation in the City following the events of the previous Saturday night – the course was reconfigured on the day of the race to become a 2 lap route over a reduced area of London.

This saw us leaving Paternoster Square by St Pauls and crossing the River via Blackfriars Bridge before circling the Tate Modern and re-crossing the Thames via the Millennium Bridge to complete lap one. Another circuit of the loop then saw us all take the finish line as we re-crossed the Millennium Bridge for the second time.

Special mention has to go to our Associate Alistair Reid who finished an impressive 27th out of 812 runners in a time of 25min 10sec and an average speed of 9.54mph over the 4mile course (6.17min/mile). Well done Ally!

So far the total raised by Team IID sits at £1,185.00 – but you can still support this worthy cause by clicking our team link below –

Contractor Selected for Hammond Quad development at Hampton School

Neilcott Construction Ltd will start in July 2017 on a three storey extension within an enclosed quad to provide a Sixth Form Study Centre, comprising quiet study areas, teaching spaces, a careers suite and Head of  Sixth Form offices.  Placing this new centre at the heart of the school reinvigorates a currently unused and neglected area.

The proposal retains the existing facades of the courtyard with the new sections linking to them. The detailing and materials, both internally and externally, have been carefully considered to create an appropriate modern insertion within the existing 1930s setting.
