This is the new Thomas’s College Richmond entrance hall, forming the main arrival space for pupils, staff and visitors at the school. The entrance hall sits within the historic former Richmond College building, a prominent listed building on Richmond Hill. As part of the wider transformation of the site into Thomas’s College, IID Architects worked carefully with the existing architecture to create a welcoming, elegant and practical school entrance while respecting the character of the original building. The space brings together restored historic features, generous proportions, carefully integrated lighting and new planting to create a calm first impression. The existing arches, staircases and stained-glass windows provide a strong architectural setting, while the updated reception area helps the building function as a modern school. For education projects, the main entrance is more than a point of arrival. It sets the tone for the school, supports safeguarding and reception management, and helps pupils, parents and visitors understand the character of the place from the moment they arrive.
