The building was conceived as a sealed box with MVHR (Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery) due to background noise levels. Energy efficiency is further improved with the inclusion of a biomass boiler. The ETFE roof over the central atrium provides a social heart to the school which is used for various events and activities. This 5 Form Entry new build school won the prestigious Community Benefit Award at the 2010 RICS Awards London.
"The completion of Chessington Community College's state of the art buildings made it one of the first schools completed under the Government's 'One School Pathfinder' scheme, part of the Building Schools for the Future programme. Feedback from the Principal is that new buildings have transformed the education experience at the College, with the number of exclusions dropping significantly and behaviour both in and out of the classroom improving dramatically"
