Expanding to meet local demand
A popular and successful local comprehensive required a further form of entry and expansion of its sixth form. Working for the borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, IID designed a series of developments and improvement projects starting with The Olivier Centre.
The Olivier Centre incorporates a small performance hall/lecture theatre, quiet study and group study rooms, a welcoming light filled social area and a range of specialist teaching areas enabling the school to offer a wide range of both academic studies and a comprehensive array of wellbeing for 6th form students. Being in an extremely restricted site and adjacent to three Grade II listed buildings the development needed to create its own statement in the area.
In 2012 a new science teaching room was built, followed by the development of additional teaching accommodation above existing buildings. Designed with a two storey glazed extension to the existing assembly hall, it provided a more expansive area for dining too, as well as delightful natural lit informal learning areas looking out across the Centenary Gardens.
Creating a fully glazed recessed main entrance and reception area with a raising platform lift on the Parson’s Green frontage between the listed buildings of Elm House and Henniker House was the culmination of the transformation of Lady Margaret School into a welcoming, modern learning environment.
