Rebuilding community
Working as a single parish, St Andrew and St Mark churches have been local landmarks since 1845. Prior to IID’s involvement, they supported the community across four separate sites. The parish asked us to look at releasing the two non-church sites to raise the necessary capital to build additional modern facilities on the church sites which would address issues of sustainability and accessibility and maintain commitments to existing community users whilst creating the potential to accommodate many more.
This has been achieved by designing different but complementary facilities at each site offering a wide range of “outreach” to parishioners and the local community. The rooms and facilities are linked to the churches but capable of independent operation whilst the churches themselves have been refurbished and reconfigured to increase their day to day use.
The parish estimates that 15,000 people use their church buildings each year. A wonderful testament to its community spirit.
